Travel centre tenders

Tenders will be called this Friday for the purchase of the BNZ Travel Centre in Colombo Street.

The bank announced last week that it would be selling its four Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin offices to private companies as they had “not met the bank’s requirements” and were not profitable “relative to the resources utilised.”

A spokesman for BNZ Travel, Mr Noel Austin, said from Wellington yesterday that “a lot of interest had been shown” from possible purchasers, and that staff will not lose their jobs. The eight Christchurch staff will be offered other jobs within the bank, retain their present positions with the new owners or opt for voluntary redundancy, he said.
