Call for A.C.C. review
An urgent, independent review of the Accident Compensation Corporation was needed, said the president of Federated Farmers, Mr Brian Chamberlain.
He said the High Court decision that the method of calculating A.C.C. levies for the year to March, 1987, was invalid demonstrated the need for an inquiry. It should not only investigate the scheme, but
also the efficiency and accountability of the A.C.C. The inquiry should be commercially orientated and be independent of the Government
Because the ruling had
set a precedent for all employers, those who had paid at the new rate should be entitled to a refund. Farmers would expect the A.C.C. to make an immediate refund of overpaid levies, said Mr Chamberlain.
