Papanui streets sealed off
Three youths were arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm after an incident at lunchtime yesterday resulted in several Papanui streets being sealed off. Senior-Sergeant John Doyle said the police received a call about 11.30 a.m. from a person who said a man at a Hoani Street address had a firearm and was threatening to shoot anyone
who tried venturing into the house. The police sealed off surrounding streets and called in the police armed offenders squad, which surrounded the house. During the incident a car left the address and was stopped by the police. Its two occupants were spoken to and a, firearm recovered from the car. just before 1 p.m. a member
of the armed offenders squad called on the remaining two youths in the . house to give themselves up. The pair came out and surrendered to the police. They were taken to the Central Police Station for questioning. Three ’of . the .four youths allegedly involved in the incident were charged late in the afternoon.
