Trip south in balance for Admiral Soanai

Special correspondent _ Auckland A trip south to Addington for the Dominion Handicap next month still hangs in the balance for Jim McGill and his fine trotter, Admiral Soanai. McGill, who owns Admiral Soanai and trains him at Ohaupo, said yesterday that the horse would have to perform well in the $30,000 Benson and Hedges InterIsland Trot at Alexandra Park this evening for his present plans to be Hltcrcd After scoring easily against relatively weak opposition in the Morrinsvllle Cup at Cambridge on September 25, McGill said that a trip south for the Dominion Handicap was most unlikely. : “At the time I said I didn’t want to go,” said McGill. "It’s a very long haul by road.” McGill said he has never travelled a horse by air and, should a southern trip come to fruition, Admiral Soanai would again be transported by float “We’ll just have to wait and see what happens,” he said. “If he does win tomorrow night then we will definitely look at making the trip again.” While Admiral Soanai is on trial for a tilt at the Dominion Handicap two definite contenders for that race, Mairo Sultan and Landora’s Pride, should offer him stiff opposition this evening. Landora’s Pride, after her easy frontrunning win at Alexandra Park on September 23, was labelled a certain contender for the Addington feature by her Pukekohe part-owner and trainer, Trevor Allingham. The prospect of having luck go her way, as was the case when beating Admiral Soanai last time out, took a “dive” when Landora’s Pride drew No.

16 in the Inter-Island Trot — the outside of the second row. Admiral Soanai, having drawn well at No. 4 will surely make her work hard for victory.
