Sharemarket plunges
Small investors bolted from the sharemarket yesterday, causing a fall of more than 154 points in the Barclays index. Brokers said that small investors, many paying high interest on borrowings to finance their shares, were selling, spooked by the big falls on Wall
Street, foHowed by other overseas exchanges. It was the New Zealand market’s biggest fall since the plunge in May sparked by a newsletter’s strong warning to investors to sell all shares.
