Nazareth House

Sir,—Referring to the demolition of old Nazareth House now that the new building is finished, the Mother Superior, Sister Wilhelmina, is quoted as saying: “It is a bit like old clothes, really — they wear out and you throw them away.” (October 15). This is a surprising remark from an obviously caring person. To throw things away is a waste. In fact, most things are recycled to those who can only afford second-hand, and the Catholic Church should do just that with old Nazareth House. I understand there was an offer to buy the building to reuse it as a budget hotel for poorer tourists, which would be a gain for the Church, the city and the tourists. — Yours, etc., JOHN DAVIES. October 15,1987.
