NZPA-Reuter Paris French radio said on Friday that the overthrown Bourkina Fasso leader, Captain Thomas Sankara, was killed in fighting during a military coup which toppled his four-year-old Government. Radio France-Inter said Captain Sankara was killed along with 11 others during clashes on Thursday between members of his personal guard and

followers of his second-in-command who seized power in Ouagadougou. The report said Captain Sankara, aged 37, who himself seized power in a military coup in August, 1983, had been buried Sankara, who changed the name of the country from Upper Volta to Bourkina Fasso (“Land of Incorruptible Men”), was replaced by Captain Blaise Compaore, aged 35, his second-in-command.
