Pakistan considers penalties
NZPA-AFP Karachi Pakistan’s cricket authorities are looking into the idea of imposing World Cup-style fines for slow bowling during future test and one-day international series. Fines, rising to as high as $10,416 an over in the final, have been introduced for the World Cup to punish any team not bowling its statutory 50
overs. But after four matches not a single fine has been incurred and a spokesman for the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan said, “Despite not very conducive weather conditions so far in the World Cup the teams have bowled the required number of overs just to avoid paying a penalty. “Is this not sufficient
enough to include, a penalty clause in the playing conditions when a series between two countries takes place?” Two months ago the International Cricket Conference, meeting in Ldndon, voted that from next year a minimum rate of 15 overs an hour will have to be bowled in test matches.
