Superbowls interest intense
Interest in the new Countrywide Superbowls compeffftott has been so intense that the Canterbury bowling centre’s preliminary event this weekend has a waiting list of 24 bowlers. The winner of the final, at the Papanui green on Monday afternoon, will earn automatic entry into a national final to be played at the Royal Oak Superbowls indoor com-
plex in Auckland next month. Two plates have 'be-’ come available in the Christchurch preliminary tournament in the last two weeks. Bob Paterson of Southbridge earned an automatic place in the national final when he won the Christchurch Superbowls tournament two weeks ago. On Monday, Bruce McNish (Spreydon) won the South Canterbury
elimination at Timaru when he beat Gary, Anderson, of Dunedin, 2116 in die final. Both Paterson and i McNish have withdrawn from this week-end's tournament but there will still be a full field of 128 bowlers. The winner of the final i on Monday will earn $6OO and an expenses paid trip to Auckland for the more ' lucrative national final.
The winner of the nptiqnal .event, will represent New Zealand in the world indoor" singles' championship In London in March, next year. The national event will be a new experience for many of the finalists. It will be played indoors and quick adaptation to the foreign surface will be necessary to reach the latter rounds. 1
