GRACIE Administration Officer IN THE WAITANGI TRIBUNAL IN THE MATTER of the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975 AND IN THE MATTER of a claim by Henare Rakihla Tua and Ngal Tahu Maori Trust Board hereinafter called “the claimants” NOTICE TO THE LESSEES OF WEST COAST (SOUTH ISLAND) RESERVES The Deputy Chairman of the Waitangi Tribunal has directed that all persons who hold leases of Maori freehold land in Greymouth from Mawhere Incorporation be notified that the Waitangi Tribunal shall hold a hearing In the Conference Room of the Ashley Motel Inn at Greymouth commencing at 2.15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 1987. The purpose of this hearing is to hear submissions from the claimants representing Poiitinl Ngal Tahu Maori owners that the Crown acted in a manner inconsistent with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi when it imposed the form of leasehold now usually known as Maori Reserved Land leaseholds and governed by the Maori Reserved Land Act 1955. In response to the Tribunal’s direction the claimants have filed the attached statement of grievance and remedies sought Pursuant to 5.6. of the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, the Tribunal is required to inquire into the claim and if it considers the claim submitted is well founded it may recommend the action which, in the opinion of the Tribunal, the Crown should take. As a person who may be affected by any recommendation the Tribunal may make, you are entitled to be heard on the claim. The Deputy Chairman of the Tribunal has also directed that your attention be drawn to the following Reports oi! statutory bodies which have been referred to the Tribunal as matters which may assist it to deal with: the claim. 1.
