A fund to honour the late Professor Winston Rhodes, a former professor of English at the University of Canterbury, will be established. The fund will enable a bronze bust of Profesor Rhodes to be cast by Tom Taylor, a sculptor in the university fine arts department.

A Winston Rhodes prize will also be awarded annually to the best student graduating B.A. honours or M.A. in English at the university. Professor David Gunby, the head of the English department, and one of the fund's trustees, said Winston Rhodes was immensely important in

New Zealand’s cultural development. He was one of the first great champions of New Zealand literature. Professor Rhodes died In July, aged 81. Donations to the fund can be sent to Professor Gunby at the University of Canterbury English department.
