New Chancellor for university
The new Chancellor of the University of Canterbury is Mr Richard Bowron, who was elected by the council this week, after the resignation of Mr Charles Caldwell. Mr Bowron, a barrister and solicitor, lives at Ashley, North Canterbury. He is a senior partner in the legal firm of Helmore, Bowron and Scott, in Rangiora. A member of the university council since 1971, Mr Bowron was pro-chan-cellor and chairman of the finance and property, investment and student liaison committees. Mr Bowron lectured in international law at the University of Canterbuiy for II years, and while a student at Canterbury he led the debating team to a win in the interuniversity Joyrit Scroll contest. Mr Bowron has been involved in education ad-
ministration at all levels and has been president of a kindergarten association, chairman of the Rangiora Borough School committee, and a member and chairman of the Christchurch Giris’ High School board of governors.
