Obituary Mr Andrew Anderson
Mr Andrew Anderson, who was held in high esteem by Transpac Group with which he worked closely, and by the mining industry and the Otago and Canterbury communities, died recently. He was 56.
Mr Anderson was born in England and studied mining at a college there and attended Durham, Otago and Canterbury universities.
He worked for the National Coal Board in Britain and for mining companies in South Africa, Zambia and New Zealand. Between 1967 and 1985
Mr Anderson worked as Andrew M. Anderson and Associates, Ltd, a consultant with more than 90 clients in the Pacific. He made 400 reports on various mining proposals, including work for Transport North Canterbury, and was engaged by Trans pac as a consultant to assist with the Planning Tribunal hearing into the company’s sand mining at Kaitorete Spit. He also worked with many other companies including A.C.I. Crown Crystal Glass and Flat Creek Coal Company. Mr Anderson was also
senior lecturer in mining at Otago University from 1961 to 1966, was an examiner for external examinations, and lectured part-time in management at Lincoln College.
At various times he had also been president of the Otago division of the Institute of Management, a member of the Otago Development Council, a commissioner of boy scouts, and a member of the Canterbury branch of the Institute of Quarrying.
Mr Anderson is survived by his wife and a daughter.
