‘Most important woman’
NZPA-AP New York The British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, is the most important woman in the world today, according to a survey of 250 newspaper editors around the world. The survey, published in the November issue of ‘ “Ladies’ Home Journal,” was based on responses from publications on every continent, including “Pravda” in the Soviet Union, the “Observer” in London, the “China Daily” and the “Times of India.” The other women, in order, are:— The Philippine President, Corazon Aquino;
Mother Teresa; the South African civil rights leader, Winnie Mandela; the Queen; Katharine Graham, chairman of the board of the Washington Post Co; Nancy Reagan; the actress Melina Mercouri, Greek Minister of Culture and Science; the Soviet First Lady, Raisa Gorbachev; and Simone Viel, first president of the European Parliament
