Soccer Argentina invited

NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires Australia has invited the world soccer champion, Argentina, to take part in a four-team tournament next year, says the Argentine Football Association president, Julio Grondona. He said that Argentina had received an official invitation to the tournament in July and that he would reply to the offer in the next few days. The former world champion, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia and Australia would be taking part in the competition, Mr Grondona said. The World Cup-winning coach, Carlos Bllardo, said that he would name a squad of about 3* players tomorrow to begin preparations later this month for Argentina's international commitments through to the end of IMS. The world champion's first friendly match since finishing a poor fourth at home in the South American championship will be against the World Cup runner-up, West Germany, in Buenos Aires in December. Argentina, which beat West Germany, 3-2, in last year's World Cup final in Mexico, will begin training with a squad made up principally of young new talent with a view to the defence of its world title in Italy in Mr Bilardo said he hoped that the World Cup captain, Diego Maradona, and the Real Madrid star, Jorge Vaidano, would be available for the match against the Germans.
