Reinforcing types

Reinforcing is available in many different forms, but for most handyman projects deformed bars of either 10mm or 12mm diameter, or HRC 665 mesh will be satisfactory. These are all available from your builder’s merchant

Deformed bars are manufactured with a series of small bumps which enhance the bond of steel to concrete and ensure both components act together.

There is not much point

in aputting steel in if it is going to slip as soon as the load goes on, In this type of project it would be referred to as D 10 or D 12 bars for 10mm and 12mm diameters respectively.

HRC mesh comes in many different sizes etc. The most popular is' referred to as 665 which is a hangover from the days of imperial measurement

It identified the steel rods as being spaced at six inch intervals in both directions, and No. 5 gauge in thickness.
