Coffee quotas back
NZPA-Reuter London The International Coffee Organisation (ICO) council has agreed to reimpose export quotas from yesterday, ICO sources said. Quotas have been suspended since February, 1986. The global quota of 58 million bags for 198788 aims to bring world prices into the range of USl2Oc to 140 c a pound. The council’s move followed agreement in
principle between ICO producing and consuming countries on the reintroduction of export quotas. Abraham van Overbeeke, a spokesman for consuming countries, said the two sides had removed the last obstacle to over-ail agreement when they settled on a mechanism for adjusting quotas in the October-December quarter, the first three months of the 1987-88 coffee year.
