The Carpet Market moves to spacious, modern premises
The Carpet Market has moved to 89 Peterborough Street from the corner of Gloucester and Manchester Streets. The new 929 square metre premises combine both showroom and warehouse. This makes it possible to use a new concept for displaying carpet which has not been seen in New. Zealand before, says Mr Keith Mills, who is the owner of the Carpet Market. Rolls of carpet are displayed on racks set at 45 degree angles, an idea which originated in Canada.
The concept has advantages for both staff and customers. The complete range of stock can be displayed, making it all accessible. The actual roll the customer selects is the one which will be laid for them, Mr Mills says. Customers can easily walk around the showroom and view the full range. Lower overheads resulting from the move mean that customers' have a greater selection at even better prices, Mr Mills says. Away from the hustle and bustle of the central
city, the new premises has customer car parking for 39 vehicles. It is also near enough to the city centre to be within, easy reach for city shoppers. “Our new showroom has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere,” Mr Mills says. The more natural light of the showroom shows the true colours of the carpet the customer is selecting. The showroom is also centrally heated. The Carpet Market’s late night is Friday and it is open from 9 a.m. till 12 noon on Saturdays.
