Big building programme
The Justice Department building programme for courts was described by Mr Palmer as big, Important and expensive. People would not respect the justice system if court facilities were not adequate, he said. His briefing papers said it was important that court facilities in larger cities such as Christchurch and Auckland be more accessible to the
public. A draft programme for court building during the next 10 years was included in the papers. It included provision for more than $l4 million to be spent on the Christchurch court programme. Mr Palmer said the improvement of existing facilities also had to continue.
