Honda to power McLarens?
Formula One racing gossips have it that next year’s McLarens will be powered by Honda rather than the Porsche-designed and built TAG turbocharged engines, which have proved unreliable lately. If the Marlboro McLaren team aligns itself with Honda, it will be the third to do so. Honda’s first alliance was with Williams. Lotus joined Honda for the current Formula One season. And speaking of Lotus, there are very strong rumours that the Brazilian Ayrton Senna will vacate his position there as team leader to join McLaren. If Serina joins McLaren, he could find himself de-
moted to No. 2 driver, because Alain Prost, the current world champion, has signed up for another year’s racing with the team. Also Senna might find that a transfer would involve riding out some rough water. The Brazilian’s contract with Lotus does not expire until the end of the 1988 Formula One season. After the German Grand Prix, Senna was lying second on the world championship points table.
