Osaka and Kyoto: ancient cities of Japan
Photographs by
LES BLOXHAM,
travel editor
The neighbouring cities of Osaka and Kyoto give visitors to Japan the chance to explore many of the country’s ancient temples, palaces, and treasures. Situated about 350 km south of Tokyo, the cities are
only 60km apart. Kyoto, which was the imperial capital for more than a thousand years, has retained much of its regal glory. Osaka is a busy port and a thriving centre of commerce.
