Woosnam in money

NZPA-Reuter Saint Nom la Breteche France lan Woosnam of Britain made virtually certain of winning the 1987 European golf money-winning title as he secured his fifth victory of the year in the Lancome Trophy golf tournament near Paris on Sunday. The little (1.63 metres) Welshman added a final round of 66 to his earlier scores of 65, 64 and 69 for a two-stroke triumph over Mark McNulty of South Africa, who carded a final round of 64. Woosnam’s 264 total, 24 under par, was five strokes under the previous record for the tournament, set in 1983 by Severiano Ballesteros of Spain. The victory cheque of £50,000 ($NZ133,500) brought Woosnam’s winnings in Europe for the year to £244,166.92 (5NZ651,925.67). His earlier successes came in the Jersey, Madrid and Scottish Opens, and he also won the Hong Kong Open at the start of the year. X
