Star trio in film

Tonight’s Wednesday Feature, "Seawolves” (8 p.m. on Two), stars three of the film industry’s most distinguished names ... Englishmen David Niven and Roger Moore, and American-born Gregory Peck.

Set in World War 11, Seawolves is the story of three commandos who come out of retirement long enough to knock a German radio transmitter out of commission. All three actors are old hands when it comes to action dramas. Gregory Peck has been thrilling filmgoers for more than 30 years in dozens of dependable and virtuous hero roles.

His 1946 film, “The Yearling” (co-starring Jane Wyman, ex-wife of President Ronald Reagan) screened last Friday on Two as part of the children’s holiday movie

package. He has starred in numerous others, including “To Kill A Mockingbird,” for which he won a Best Actor oscar Award. The late David Niven was another actionman from way back. Loved for his urbane wit and dapper charm, Niven starred in many historical films, such as “Bonnie Prince Charlie” and “Around the World in 80 Days.” Both he and Peck had key roles in the 1961 classic World War II adventure, “The Guns of Navarbne.”

Roger Moore, now aged 59, only recently handed on his role of agent James Bond to a younger man. Although he appeared in a string of earlier films, it was as the dashing 007 that he made his name, beginning with “Live And Let Die” in 1973 and finishing on a high note with “Octopussy” in 1983.
