Round N.Z. run
More than 20,000 outward bounders have been gearing up for their super run, which begins tomorrow.
The run will begin at the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa, and runners will proceed around both the North and South Islands and back to Anakiwa. Because the school relies heavily on public support for its existence, the run will incorporate a public appeal to raise funds.
The run will pass through Christchurch on September 27.
Disco The fortnightly discos held by the Christchurch Youth Centre are becoming increasingly popular. The co-ordinator of the centre, Bridget Hanrahan, says broad range of
young people from the Christchurch Metropolitan area have been attending. The cost of attending a disco at the centre is $6. There is a $1 discount if the young person is on the Youth Centre’s mailing list Through this they receive a fortnightly newsletter and discount flyers advertising the disco. There are currently 440 young people on the list
The discos are held from 7.30 p.m. until the final buses leave the square at 10.45 p.m. They are run by young people supervised by adults. Bridget says they provide a great opportunity for young people to meet others their own age. “They can dance solidly for three hours or chat over a coke.” The Youth Centre has a strict policy of not allowing alcohol or drugs on the premises.
