Car charges

A Christchurch high school student who allegedly stole and repainted two cars was more than happy to lend them to friends.

The youth is believed to be responsible for the taking of a Volkswagen, a Ford Escort and a Toyota Corolla coupe. He allegedly dumped the Corolla in Fendalton but kept the two other cars, which he repainted.

He lent one car to school friends for a ski trip to Mount Hutt. On another occasion one of the cars was borrowed by his friends for what a police spokesman described as skylarking. The youth was arrested on Friday on two charges of car theft and one of unlawful taking. He appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded to the Children and Young Persons Court on September 22.
