The day of the show: Feed the pony early, then kit yourself up. To keep your jodhpurs and shirt clean, put a pair of jeans and an overall over the top. Then return to your pony bandage him up and take him to the show in good time so you are there when you are called in.

When you arrive, take your pony around the show ground to let him get the feel of it. At this point you are ready to start tidying yourself up. Put on your coat, tidy your hair back (into a net prefer-

ably if you are a girl), put your comptition number and gloves on. Collect your whip. You and your pony are ready for the competition. Make certain that you know the rules of any particular competition and if you are jumping always look on the entrance gate for the jump-off course. Don’t sit about on your pony’s back and don’t gallop about unnecessarily. Shelter him from the sun or wind, and lead him around until he has cooled off after competing.

If you give him food during the day make certain that he has time to digest it. When the day is over, make your pony comfortable for the journey home, and before leaving, try to find the secretry of the show or one of the organisers and thank him or her for an enjoyable day. If you cannot find a rubbish bin, take away any rubbish you may have.
