SHAREMARKET Barclays index back at it’s all-time peak
“The Barclays index of industrial shares reached an all-time high of 3918.54 yesterday, a rise of 21.74 points on the day and 5.61 points above the index’s highest point ever — the 3912.93 reached on November 10, last year. “The Barclays index was led to an all-time high, mostly by Brierley Investments which traded as high as 527, and closed at 525 —15 c higher, said Mr Patrick Lee, of the Christchurch sharebroking firm Chamberlain Sturge and Company. Other leaders to catch the eye were Crown, while second-liner Baycorp continued its recent
strong run. Renouf Corporation eased 3c to 322 after Monday’s solid gain. “Brokers expect a firm tone for the remainder of the week,” Mr Lee said. Both the morning and the afternoon session were firm, without any pressure, Mr Lee said. The NZSE capital index put on 7.56 to 1352.17. ' Almost all price changes were small, but Brierley’s closed at 525 — up 15c. Other shares to catch the eye were Energycorp, 40c up to 400, Epicorp 14c to 184, lEP, up 20c to 660, and Montana, 18c to 445. On the
other side of the investments, Fortuna rose 5c to 335, J. O. Edmond also 5c to 110, Landmark gained 11c to 243. ' ~ As on Monday, all price changes were smalL Rainbow put on 12c to 312, and Renouf Corp 3c to 322. Smiths City Group gave up another 10c of Fridays’ gain to close at 158. Skellerup lost 2c to 118, Progressive Enterprises gained 2c to 372, but Lion dropped 3c to 725. v . Baycorp, tightly held, jumped another 70c to 850, as Big Glory bounced back 24c to 124. Wattle’s slipped 2c to . 663, as Trans Ashburton rose 6c to 235.
