INDOOR CRICKET Sockburn had an upset win against I.C.A. in a semi-final of the women's competition at the Russley centre. In what was a high-scoring match, Sockbum won, 151111. Lisa Cairns and Susie Purdon scored 50 runs and Jocelyn Robertson and Leanne Wells 40, in the last combination. In reply, I.C.A.'s early partnerships kept on target The newly-promoted pair, Elaine McLean and Ellie Harper, scored 38 runs. After 12 overs I.C.A. had 106. But with a fine fielding display Sockbum took vital catches and run-outs to restrict the final I.C.A. partnership fo five runs and thereby achieve a comfortable win. In the other women’s semifinal, Russley outplayed Howzat, winning 134-33. Howzzat struggled for runs against the sharp Russley fielding. Its score was eclipsed in the first Russley partnership. Large margins were also recorded in the men’s semifinals. The Russley batsmen performed well, scoring 148. 'An exceptional 61-run tally was recorded by Pete Steele and Chris Cairns, who were in punishing form. Papanui was never in touch with its target; it could muster only 48 runs.
