Woman wins competition
PA Timaru A South Canterbury woman, Mrs Wendy Hurst, has won an international speech competition in Vancouver. Mrs Hurst, who is a member of the Kotuku International Training in Communication (formerly Toastmistresses) Club won the contest against 24 contestants from throughout the world. She spoke on customs, relating the actions of “particularly abnoxious” customs officers she had been confronted by at Honolulu Airport. She went on to talk about language customs and the different words that English speaking nations customarily use for the same actions or item. . She concluded, whatever the custom “my way, your way, as long as you enjoy doing it, it’s the best way?’
