Auck. to lose screw plant
PA Wellington Ajax Fasteners, Ltd, will close its screw manufacturing plant in Auckland at Christmas. When work ceased on December 23, about 80 workers would be redundant, the company said yesterday. Ajax would continue to make screws in New Zealand, with that work being relocated at its Lower Hutt bolt, nut and hinge
plant. Ajax would retain a warehouse in Auckland. It would offer jobs in the warehouse to present employees.
Once full screw-manu-facturing activities have been re-established at Lower Hutt, about 40 additional employees would be required. Most of these jobs would be available to existing Auckland employees.
