Store robbery alleged
A man, aged 19, was remanded in custody without plea yesterday when he appeared in the District Court at Nelson charged with the aggravated robbery of the Hope store. The name of the accused was suppressed in the interim after the duty solicitor, Mr Mike Crosbie, told the court he
was already on remand, pending a psychiatric report, on other charges. The man has been charged with robbing James Rowling, the proprietor of the Hope store, of $1216 while armed with a knife, on Thursday. He was remanded by Mr Don Blyth, Justice of the Peace, until the next
court session on Tuesday. The man was apprehended by an off-duty detective from Wellington, who saw a man walk out of the store with two bags of cash. The money allegedly taken in the robbery was proceeds from the New Zealand Post agency at the Hope store.
