Rail work to schedule
PA Wellington The electrification of the North Island Main Trunk railway is set for completion in June next year, on time and slightly under budget, says a Railways Corporation spokesman. The estimated final cost for the Palmerston NorthHamilton electrification was $260 million, said the project manager, Mr Lex Williams.
In real terms, the project was running slightly under the $165 million budget when it was begun in 1981, he said.
