Danes challenge N.Z. butter quota
NZPA London New Zealand should expect huge cuts in the amount of butter it can sell on the British market from next year, according to Danish dairy industry leaders.
Only days after British farmers called for an end to New Zealand butter imports, the Danes were saying New Zealand was "naive” to expect European farmers to sympathise with its efforts to retain a share of the mar-
ket Jens Majgaard, managing director of Butterdane, the largest shipper of Danish butter to Britain, said he admired the way New Zealand had lobbied for continued access.
“But to expect the farmers of Europe to accept that New Zealand has special rights — or that it would be better for everyone if its quota was untouched — is just not on,” Mr Majgaard told a British trade magazine.
