N.Z. Post
Sir,—The Assistant General Manager of N.Z. Post, Mr P. J. Burke, replies to a letter from V. E. Harris (August 13) that complaints may be lodged at a Post Office. On September 22,1986, at 9.15 a.m., I posted a letter at a Post Office for Wellington and this eventually arrived on July 14, 1987 — 10 months later. I made inquiries when the letter did not arrive and was advised "That the Post Office was unable to trace.” Since the arrival of the letter, I have written to the mail section of the Post Office, Christchurch. As of today’s date, I have not had an acknowledgement. Maybe that letter is also going to take 10 months.—Yours, etc., M. ANDERSON. August 26, 1987.
[The assistant general manager of N.Z. Post, Mr P. J. Burke, replies: “Unfortunately, I am unable to locate M. Anderson’s inquiry concerning the delay in delivery of the letter posted in .September, 1986. In the circumstances, I wish to apologise for the annoyance caused by both the mishandling of that letter and our subsequent failure to correctly process the inquiry. Complaints concerning service problems are usually followed through and every effort made to rectify performance failures if the cause can be isolated. Regrettably, in M. Anderson's case, a mistake occurred and the original service failure was aggravated by a further errror, but I can assure your readers that this kind of mishandling of Inquiries is rare.”]
