PA Auckland 7 A man felt compelled to confess a series of un- . solved crimes dating to 1985 before settling Into a law-abiding lifestyle, the District Court at Auckland has been told. The man, aged 23, who had been living with a Christian Trust group, told the polite he had had a change of heart and wanted to clear up past matters before embarking on a new. life. The Court was told that;in July he approached the police through his solicitor, indicating his willingness to confess to a. num- / ber of crimes. He has pleaded guilty to 11 charges — one of theft, two of burglary* five : pf
false pretence, two of stealing motor-vehicles and one of car conversion. . Judge:. Paul, who granted the man Interim suppression of name, convicted and remanded. nlm: for probation and reparation reports and sentence on October 7.; The prosecutor. Sergeant Philip Wirth, said that from descripttofep the man gavethe police cpuld identity crimes which, without his! helis were unlikely to have been resolved. Defence counsel, Mr Patrick Driscoll, said his client wanted to make reparation and was happy for details of his cohfession to be made public.
