Early-morning offence

A theatre cleaner was assaulted in Christchurch yesterday morning by a man who said he wanted to be her friend. The parttime employee was approached near the entrance to the Regent Theatre about 7.30 a.m. The offender put his hands over her face and neck and made the comment about being friends. Detective Mike Cron said the man had a Postbank savings account

book in bls hand and offered to share the funds with the woman. He then went away. Detective Cron said the man had been seen in Cathedral Square early in the morning on other occasions. He is possibly partMaori, aged about 27, about 173 cm (sft Sin) tan, and was wearing a red tracksuit top, blue shirt, and grey trousers. He had collar-length black wavy hair.
