Building programme unlikely to enforce change of venue
There seems little chance that the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s October meeting will have to be transferred to another track. Work began on a new stewards’ stand complex and the meetings of both the trotting and the racing clubs will not have full use of the normal facilities next month. However, the racing club secretary, Mr Neville Moffat said yesterday there had been little consideration given to a change of venue. “The trotting club race there on October 10 and if they can do it there is no reawn the racing club can’t,’’ he said. “It is a little bit more
difficult for a racing club on the day but we have been assured that the basic requirements will be met as far as facilities are concerned.’’ The clubs have been told the tower for judges, commentators, officials and the photo-finish will be completed in time and that, along with shower facilities for jockeys,
which are also expected to be completed by then, would seem the only potential problem areas. “Our builders are well aware of the position and have co-operated fully. We have been fortunate in that respect," Mr Moffat said. No other club has been formally approached, as an alternative venue.
