Sir,—D. W. Andrews and George Guy are so right when they point out the Promotion Council tourist statistic which indicates that only 5 per cent of tourists patronise man-made activities when visiting Christchurch. Contrast this with the enthusiasm for our parks, gardens and our open hill spaces so close to the centre of Christchurch. My log book and visitors’ book contain numerous references to our relatively unspoilt environment — surely our greatest asset, yet in gravest danger of being usurped by private developers. Let those developers pay full commercial prices for their projects on private land and put their extravaganzas in less-sensitive areas. The precedent they seek to establish is exceedingly threatening. — Yours, etc., r . JOHN W. JAMESON. Christchurch Personal Guiding Services. August 2, 1987.
