Education

Sir,—The importance of education /advocated by both National and Labour is not just a. matter of smaller classes and increased expenditure. It needs a strong Minister of Education with the necessaty. background of wide study, successful practical experience and excellent organising ability, which at present I feel is conspicuously lacking. Sound learning habits require the co-operation of home and school in training our children from their earliest days to listen attentively, to carry out instructions accurately, to keep working on a task till it is finished and to take a pride in giving their best. Children probe for weaknesses in us and tend to give what we accept; so it is vital to accept only their best in work, or behaviour. Today schools must train pupils to be adaptable and should stress the importance of obeying the laws of health, the road, the Commandments, etc., to eliminate violence, crime and misery in this sick world.— Yours, etc.,
