Court hears charges after undercover work

Forty-three persons charged with offences arising from last week’s police undercover exercise in Blenheim appeared before Judge Seeman in the District Court at Blenheim yesterday. Those charged with indictable offences were remanded for the taking of depositions for a High Court hearing. In cases where pleas of guilty were entered fines were imposed by Judge Seeman, or the defendant remanded for sentence.

Most charges related to drug offences, and most of these for the possession or sale of cannabis, but other charges involved the receiving of stolen property. Mason Kevin McClurg, also known as Mason Kevin Reiiu, aged 26, unemployed, pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property valued at $1137. He was convicted and fined $4OO. Henrik Jan Van Aarst, aged 55, a solo parent, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cannabis seed and cultivating cannabis. He was convicted and remanded on bail to August 20 for sentence.

Kevin Wayne Abbott, aged 27, a labourer, was remanded on bail to August 19 on a charge of possession of cannabis seed. No plea was entered.

Joanne Marie Scott, aged 19, a shed hand, was remanded at large until August 19 on a charge of possession of cannabis. No plea was entered.

Shane Phillip Rangiuaia, aged 20, an unemployed labourer, was remanded on bail to August 19 on charges of possession of cannabis and cultivating cannabis. No plea was entered.

Jeffrey lan Plowright, aged 33, a sickness beneficiary, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on charges of

possession of cannabis seed and cultivating cannabis. Martin Charles Panting, aged 22, a traffic operator, pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of cannabis seed and theft of 10 poppy plants. He was remanded on bail to September 3. Gary David Bland, aged 30, unemployed, was remanded on bail without plea fo August 19 on a charge of possession of cannabis seed.

Tracey Lawrence Liddington, aged 24, unemployed, pleaded guilty to a charge of cultivating cannabis. He was convicted and fined $500..

Donna Marie Kaiwai, aged 21, a solo parent, was remanded without plea to August 19 on a charge of possession of cannabis. James Harvey Halliday, aged 35, a boat finisher, was remanded at large until August 19 on charges of possession of cannabis seed and equipment for the misuse of drugs. No plea was entered. Rana Rane Vroegrijk, aged 29, an opossum hunter, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of

depositions on a charge of receiving an outboard motor valued at $lOOO.

George Graham Hena Tuwairua, aged 23, an unemployed musician, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of receiving video equipment valued at $2092. He pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of cannabis seeds and was convicted and fined $5O. William Dean Luke Stafford, aged 31, an unemployed presser, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on four charges of selling cannabis and two charges of possession of cannabis. Louis Peter Windane Rangiuaia, aged 22, unemployed, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of receiving band drums valued at $2600. Dion Reuben Paul Rangiuaia, aged 17, an unemployed labourer, was convicted and fined $lOO on a charge of possession of cannabis and convicted and discharged on a charge of having equipment for the misuse of drugs. He pleaded guilty to both charges. Gerald Samuel Rangi Piwai, aged 35, unemployed, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Richard John Peter, aged 36, a driver, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Beverley Helen Peter, aged 31, a process worker, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on charges of possession of cannabis and selling cannabis. Jacob Paringatai, aged 32, unemployed, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on charges of burglary and selling cannabis. John William Millar, aged 21, an unemployed timber hand, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on three charges of possession of can-

nabis and two charges of selling cannabis. Clifford Brent Markland, aged 32, unemployed, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Shane Gordon Mark, aged 25, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on three charges of supplying cannabis. Thomas William MacDonald, aged 40, an unemployed tree feller, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Kevin Arnold MacDonald, aged 33, a bush worker, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of offering cannabis for sale. Craig Lyttle, aged 23, unemployed, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on three charges of offering to sell cannabis and one charge of receiving video equipment valued at $l5OO. Dana Makoare Love, aged 21, a beneficiary, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of. depositions on two charges of selling cannabis. Shane King, aged 22, a beneficiary, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Meffan October Kaiwai, aged 22, a farm worker, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of receiving band drums valued at $2600.

Peter Raymond Melvin Jury, aged 27, an unemployed farm worker, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on one charge of cultivating cannabis, two charges of selling morphine, eight charges of selling cannabis and a charge of receiving band drums valued at $2600.

Gregory Stuart Hammond, aged 21, an unemployed labourer, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on

charges of possessing cannabis and a pipe and selling cannabis.

Stephen George Fry, aged 32, a beneficiary, was remanded on ball to September 14 for the taking of depositions on two charges of selling cannabis, a charge of possession of cannabis and a charge of possession of equipment for smoking cannabis. Michael Paul Evers, aged 22, a labourer, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on three charges of selling cannabis, a charge of receiving video equipment valued at $691 and a charge of receiving video equipment valued at $ll6l. Glenn Edgar Douglas, aged 27, an unemployed panel beater, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on three charges of selling cannabis and one charge of offering to supply lysergide.

Paul Philip Powhiri Cooper, aged 25, a vineyard labourer, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of selling cannabis. Cindy Rae Pearl Cairns, aged 18, a waitress, was remanded on bail to August 18 on three charges of selling cannabis and one charge of possession of cannabis. No plea was entered. Arataki Carter, aged 23, a scrub cutter, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on charges of selling cannabis, receiving video- equipment valued at $4574 and stealing 10 poppy plants. Steven Carl Blaylock, aged 23, a sickness beneficiary, was remanded on bail to September 2 on a charge of selling cannabis. No plea was entered.

Phillip John Blaylock, aged 18, unemployed, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of cannabis seeds. He was convicted and fined $2OO. Michael Anthony Robert Bary, aged 17, an assistant slaughterman, was remanded on bail to September 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of possession of cannabis.
