NZPA-Reuter Stratton Mountain, Vermont The unheralded American, Greg Holmes, upset second seed, Jimmy Connors, 7-5, 7-5 yesterday in the first round of the $.U5315,000 men’s grand prix tennis tournament in Stratton Mountain. Top-seed, Ivan Lendl, of Czechoslovakia ; led most of the other seeded players through the first round with Wally Masur, the tenth seed in the field of 64, the only other upset victim as fellow Australian, Mark Kratzmann, beat him 1-6, 7-6, 7-5. Lendl defeated Marc Flur of the United States 6-4, 6-3. The Wimbledon champion, Pat Cash, of Australia — the third seed — started slowly but finished strongly to beat Kelly Evernden of New Zealand 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Fourth seed, John McEnroe, eliminated fellow American, Jonathan Canter, 6-3, 6-2.
