Private trainer appointed

Ross Oliveri, a former trainer for the Australian entrepreneur, Michael Edgley, is to take up a position as private trainer for Curtins Farm Racing Ltd, at Morrinsville from September 1.

The Perth horseman, aged 33, trained the former New Zealand hopes, Smooth Dave (24 wins) Tempo Cavallo (24 wins), Gliding Princess (11 wins), Hidden Cash (12 wins) and Doctor Inglis (six wins) during his successful association with the Edgley-owned horses between 1981 and 1984.

Oliveri is to work from a 12-hectare establishment at Morrinsville, formerly used by lan Hunter and John Reith, who have both given up training.

Oliveri will train a team of six initially, with Curtins Farm likely to purchase more suitable stock for the stable in the next few months. Among his team will be the two-year old filly Heartcrusher, a half-sis-ter, by Smooth Felia, to Dictatorship (1:58.4).
