Basketball tour confirmed
The Canterbury men’s basketball league team last evening confirmed that it will have a short tour of New South Wales next week, starting on Monday and finishing on Thursday. It will be a build-up to the finals in Wellington later in the month. Because of a lapse of three weeks, the Canterbury Association was forced to find other games for the squad. It could not find
them in New Zealand. The ten member squad is Clyde Huntley, Angelo Hill, John Rademakers, lan Webb, Bert Knops, Graham Timms, Andy Bennett, John Hill, Terry Brunel and Bill Duggan. mThe team will play four games, on the trot, in Sydney and then will have a break on Friday before returning on Saturday. The team will be coached by Garry Pettis and managed by Jock
McNaught. If the team had failed the finals, that was it, said Mr Pettis last evening. “I think they are mentally stale from New Zealand league and need a freshening up.” Mr Pettis considers the Canterbury team will find a good mixture of both offence and defence and this should help the side in its quest for yet another national title.
