Leaders' debate

Sir,—My reactions to the Television debate were those of anger and fear. How can I have faith that the political leaders of my country are able to create a safe and caring environment for me and my children when I see such lack of tolerance for other than one’s own point of view? I do not blame any of the three men involved in the debate, personally, as I see them as victims of a political system which is sick. We have a confrontational type of political system which uses some of the worst aspects of human behaviour in which to function because of a win-at-all-costs approach. As "The Press” suggested, the debate was really only a display of petty human behaviour. It certainly did not help me in my decision for election day. Perhaps we should all go to the poll and cross everybody’s name off to show our disgust at the whole political system. — Yours, etc.,

CLARE HARDY. August 3, 1987.
