Teethmarks led to killer

When William Craig, a part-time member of Northern Ireland’s security forces, was shot dead in a burst of automatic gunfire, the only clue found at the scene of the crime was a half-eaten apple. From the teethmarks, a professor of dentistry was able to build up a detailed description of the man who had bitten the apple, including his facial features, height and body build.

The investigating officer dismissed the description as a “fairy tale.” But events unfolded to-

night on One in “Indelible Evidence — Windfall” prove just how wrong he was. With tonight’s reconstruction there are no real-life professionals — scientists, police officers, doctors, coroner’s officers — explaining their contribution to the case. “Windfall” is a Northern Ireland sectarian murder investigated by the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
