Youth soccer matches
The Canterbury Football Association has announced an extensive programme of matches for the Canterbury under-18 team.
The team, which has yet to be announced, will play 12 matches leading up to the South Island youth tournament in Timaru in early September. The coach, Tony Harvey, will select a squad of 24, which will be trimmed to 15 for the youth tournament. The C.EA.’s chairman, Mr Colin Houston, said, “The C.F.A. recognises that today’s youth players are tomorrow’s Canterbury senior representatives. We have put this programme together to give oUr
ambitious youngsters the incentive to do well.” The full programme is:— v. Canterbury under 17, August
2; v. Christ’s College, August 4; v. St Andrew’s College, August 6; v. under-17 world touring team, August 9; v. Burnside High School, August 11; v. Christchurch Boys’ High School, August 13; v. Canterbury D, August 16; v. Linwood High School, August 18; v. Shirley Boys’ High School, August 19; v. South Canterbury under 18, August 22; v. Otago Youth, August 23; v. Christchurch Secondary Schools, September 6; South Island tournament, Timaru, September 12 and 13.
