Superb finish

The South Island boys’ champion, Tony Christie (Waimairi Beach), had a brilliant final nine holes of 34 (three-under par) to pip Lyndon Cron (Waitikiri) by a shot in the Eagles Golf Society of Canterbury tournament at the Harewood old course last week-end. Cron, the North Island boys’ champion, held a fourshot lead over Christie after 18 of the 27 holes after an excellent one-under round of 72. Christie, however, was

capable of making up four strokes on the last nine holes. Karl Mariu, on 113 (72, 41), finished third, three shots behind Cron. Kerryn Starr (Christchurch) will be the province’s female representative in the Eagles national final at Miramar on September 2 and 3. She easily won the Canterbury title with a 27-hole total of 124 (80, 44), beating Rebecci Prescott (Kaiapoi) by 16 shots.
