Low-key effort in the north

PA Whangarei Regional industry 1 and development were the main focus of the Democratic Party’s low-key campaign in the northern electorates yesterday. The leader of the party, Mr Neil Morrison, said regional development demanded interventionism. Both the Labour and the National parties supported the free-market theory, but also talked about regional development. “The two ideas are diametrically opposed,” Mr Morrison said.

“The Democrat’s believe governments are elected to intervene for and on behalf of the workers, the creators of real wealth,” he said. Mr Morrison concentrated on personal contact with voters. In his first stop of the day, he spoke to about 75 workers during morning tea at the Whangarei Engineering Company. < At the company, Mr Morrison released the Democrat’s industrial relations policy, which emphasised co-operation rather than conflict.
