New police action welcomed
A new police policy which will mean domestic dispute offenders face a greater chance of arrest, has been praised by the Battered Women’s Support Group.
“The Battered Women’s Support Group is delighted with the new police policy of arresting the aggressor instead of escorting the domestic violence victim from the property,” said the group’s co-ordinator, Mrs Doris Church.
The new policy, an-
nounced last week, means that police attending domestic disputes will arrest the aggressor if evidence shows an assault has occurred, of if the victim is in danger. “We have been asking the police for nine years to take action which will make it clear to the offender that the police support the victim,” said Mrs Church.
“This new policy will encourage more women to call the police and to lay charges of assault.”
