Accident insurance claims up
PA Wellington Accident insurance claims increased 27.7 per cent from $289.1 million in 1984-85, to $369.2 million in 1985-86, said the Statistics Department. Insurance companies earned $485 million in premiums in 1985-86, 20.52 per cent more than the previous year’s earnings of $402.4 million.
Fire insurance claims amounted to $198.7 million in 1985-86, 34 per cent more than the previous year’s $148.2 million.
Income on fire insurance premiums was $338.7 million in 1985-86, 16.63 per cent more than the previous year of $290.4 million.
